Titan D Tunnel
No matter how much I search, I was unable to find technical information for this particular tunnel. As far as I understood, Titan D complexes had no tunnels, so when Scott and I found this system at Vandenberg Air Force Base, it was a complete surprise.
I then stumbled upon this PDF, which claimed that the launch operations building (LOB) was an underground bunker located some distance from the 576A Atlas D site pictured here.
The overwhelming amount of data cables here led me to believe that this tunnel went to the old LOB. Unfortunately, I never walked more than 200 feet into it, so I’ll probably never know… The article in the PDF also mentioned a wonderful, peeling mural in the LOB, which – I’m sad to say – I may never have a chance to photograph.
