[...] For Thanksgiving, I migrated south to Ventura to visit family. Along the way I found a mid-20th century Railroad cafe. Upon arriving, I found myself in the midst of the recent wildfires and recounted the experience in an entry. Last night, I descended on the shores of Ventura’s beaches around 11:30 p.m. I remember, particularly, one night with a girl I once was crazy about on the end of the Ventura Pier. When one reminisces, one often has a hankering to make a pilgrimage — so I did just that. [...]

Thanks Troy! I couldn't agree more. Trying times we live in, but I really do see us emerging from these past seven-odd bleak years to a new outlook. BTW, saw your YouTube vid -- Great work!

Beautifully written.

Fantastic Cafe! Just when you think you've seen it all . . .

Here we are, deep into the 21st century now, and it's this decaying 20th century roadside world that has become the new "Old West" for our generation. We can relate to it's auto obsessed Studebaker Commander petro-soul more than to the Studebaker covered wagons and mining boom towns of the 19th century because it's more closely related to the world we live in. This shift is inevitable, and we are finding ourselves at the tip of a cresting cultural wave.
